Eric's positional awareness

04 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Eric Dier has described Thursday’s clash with Anderlecht as “a massive game” in the context of our position in Group J of the Europa League.

We’re currently third in the standings with four points from three games, one place below our Belgian opponents on the head-to-head ruling.

Only two points separate all four sides ahead of matchday four and, with that in mind, Eric has prioritised victory at White Hart Lane on Thursday evening to strengthen our position as we bid to make it through to the knockout stages.

“Anderlecht are a good side and if we let them, they’ll hurt us,” warned the 21-year-old, who was part of the side that lost 2-1 to Anderlecht on matchday three in Brussels a fortnight ago.

“In the away game we were the better team in the first half but we were sloppy on a set piece and then let them back into the game, so it’s up to us not to let them hurt us this time.

“Every game is difficult in the Europa League so we’re going to have to be at 100 per cent.

“It’s a massive game for us because we need to win to get back into a good position in the group so it’s very important that we focus only on this game, hopefully we’ll get the result and then we can look ahead to the weekend and the derby at Arsenal.”
