Eric Dier is on the goal trail this season.
The versatile defender/midfielder currently playing in a midfield holding role headed home the opener in our 2-2 draw against Stoke on Saturday.
In doing so, he became the first player since Darren Anderton (2000-01, 2001-02) to score our first goal of the season in successive campaigns after his famous late winner at West Ham last term.
He went on to notch in our first home game against QPR as well and admitted he was disappointed not to add to his tally in his debut season after starting with such a flourish.
He’s determined to put that right. “Last season I was disappointed because I scored the two early goals and didn’t score again,” he said.
“I had chances as well. There was one against City at home and I had one cleared off the line against Arsenal.
“This season, I want to score more goals. I know if I keep playing in midfield and keep doing well I’ll hopefully have more chances.”

Eric said he was aiming for more goals regardless of his positional switch. “I think I can do better from set-pieces and get in better positions," he reasoned.
“Last season I could have scored a few more goals so this season, hopefully I’ll get past two!”
