Eric and Harry on target, debut for Danny in England comeback

26 March 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Eric Dier scored his first England goal in dramatic circumstances as England came back from 2-0 down to beat world champions Germany 3-2 on Saturday night (March 26).

The defensive midfielder powered home a stoppage time header to complete a sensational Three Lions comeback in Berlin after Harry Kane had set them on their way with a stylish goal of his own.

Danny Rose also marked his senior international debut in the all-action friendly while Dele Alli earned his fifth cap as Roy Hodgson named four Spurs players in the starting XI for England’s first game of the calendar year. All four completed the full 90 minutes while Kyle Walker was an unused substitute.

The Three Lions’ equaliser on the night came in the form of a well-taken goal by Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy with just over a quarter-of-an-hour left.

Prior to that, Harry produced a classy strike to get England off the mark on 61 minutes, recovering what seemed to be a lost cause before turning in the box and producing a fine finish into the far corner.

Dele shot over the bar as he tried to get on the scoresheet soon after Vardy’s leveller before Eric, playing only his third senior international game, popped up with a thumping header from Jordan Henderson’s corner to win it one minute into stoppage time.

Capped 29 times by England at Under-21 level, flying left-back Danny enjoyed a solid outing. He has been called into the senior squad twice before but was yet to feature until now.
