As he prepares for the third of six games in just 18 days at Bournemouth, Jan Vertonghen can’t get enough of the match action, insisting: “I’d play five games a week!”
The Belgian centre-half hasn’t missed a minute in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League this season, often playing twice a week as we continue to compete on several fronts.
Asked about our busy schedule ahead of this weekend’s trip to the south coast, the 29-year-old declared: “I love it! I love playing – I’d play five games a week. This is what we want and I would find it difficult to just play one game a week. Every footballer wants this.
“The Champions League is up there with the Premier League and every Champions League team we play would do well in the Premier League, so we’re constantly playing at the highest level. That keeps you focused.”
Bournemouth have only lost one of their last six domestic games and, assessing our opponents on Saturday, Jan added: “There are no weak teams in the Premier League, I fully believe that.
“Bournemouth won 6-1 against Hull last weekend and they have some quality players. It will be tough but we’ve had an extra day’s rest after Leverkusen and we will be ready.”
