End of term report 2

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton continues his end-of-season assesment of players who featured in reserve sides last season.

Anthony Gardner
Really came on toward the end of the season. He had the difficulty of coming from playing regularly in somebody’s first team to playing in our reserves. I think at times he found that a little bit difficult, but he’s got better and better as the season went on and I’ve no doubt that he’s got a lot of potential.

If I look at the last few games he played, certainly the Villa game, I thought he was outstanding. You sense even in his training sessions with the first team he’s becoming more and more assured.

I’d like to think he’s got a very bright future.

Ian Hillier
Very, very steady. He has become a very accomplished reserve team player. That’s why at the start of the season I made him captain.

He was one I sensed would play regularly — playing at right back or centre half. Haven’t had enough to break through to our first team group on a regular basis, even though he’s been in a few squads towards the end. But he’s made progress and that’s all you ask.

Each year, if you can say that a lad has got better and better - and he has done. That’s why he has become a more consistent reserve team player.

For Ian now it’s just the next step.

Ledley King
I don’t think Ledley has really surprised anyone here. He is one, because we’ve had him here from such a young age, that we always felt coujld be a player, certainly a spectacular player with the ability that he’s got.

Unfortunately, if I look over the last season or so, he’s picked up a couple of injuries which haven’t helped his progress. He is still a young lad, still growing and developing, he really is.

There is no doubt he has that ability and we certainly look forward to him having many years in the Tottenham team and squads.
