EASY DOES IT

Martin Jol was impressed with the way Darren Bent opened his Spurs goalscoring account in the friendly win at Stevenage on Saturday.

Martin Jol was impressed with the way Darren Bent opened his Spurs goalscoring account in the friendly win at Stevenage on Saturday.

The summer capture from Charlton took 46 minutes to register at Broadhall Way, latching onto Steed Malbranque’s pass and lifting the ball over advancing keeper Ross Ketteridge.

Martin said “He exploited the space, used his pace to get onto Steed Malbranque’s pass and then beat the keeper.

“It was a typical Darren Bent goal and he made it look easy.”

Darren’s goal made it 2-1 after Ollie Allen had levelled Robbie Keane’s penalty in the first half.

In a dominant second half display, Adel Taarabt completed the scoring when his 25-yarder slipped through Ketteridge’s fingers.

“We were able to play some younger players, Darren scored his first goal, we won the game and came away with no injuries, so that was all positive for us,” added Martin, who now prepares for a friendly against eircom League side St Patrick’s in Dublin on Thursday (July 12), kick-off 7.30pm.
