Duo named in England squad
English Barclays Premiership
Darren Anderton is back on the England scene. The midfielder has been named in Kevin Keegan's squad alongside team-mate Sol Campbell for the friendly against France in Paris on Saturday September 2.
The midfielder was advised by specialists to rest an Achilles problem in the summer and he was therefore forced to pull out of the running for the European Championships.
He reported no problems after coming back from that break, looked good in pre-season and has impressed in our Premiership matches against Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.
Anderton gave his reaction exclusively to the Official Spurs Website. He said: "I'm very pleased to be back in the squad. I thought Kevin Keegan would keep faith with the players he used in the summer, so I wasn't expecting it. I had a good pre-season, I feel fine and it's great to be involved again."
Keegan also recalled Andy Cole and commented: ""People will make something out of me not picking Andy for Euro2000 but he was not fit and I am sure he will say so next week. I have picked Darren Anderton seven times and he has pulled out on six occasions through injury."
Full squad: Seaman, Martyn, James, G Neville, P Neville, Adams, Campbell, Barry, Keown, Ferdinand, Southgate, Ince, Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Dyer, Wise, Barmby,Anderton, McManaman, Owen, Cole, Phillips, Heskey.
