Dream on for Dawson

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Michael Dawson described making his Spurs debut up at Anfield on Saturday as 'what dreams are made of' and is hoping for a White Hart Lane sequel against West Brom tonight.

The central defender has had to be particularly patient since signing on as a Spurs player at the end of January. A shin problem put paid to his wish to make an early impact at his new club and, after returning to full training a couple of weeks ago, the England under-21 international fully expected to be turning out for the reserves against Arsenal on Monday.

However, with both Noureddine Naybet and Anthony Gardner unavailable, Martin Jol must have been suitably impressed enough with what he has seen in training to hand Michael the No.20 shirt he was so longing to pull on.

Prior to beginning his interview, the 21-year-old made the 'what dreams are made of' comment and we began by assessing that it just about sums it up.

"It does," said the ever-cheerful Michael. "The gaffer told me I was playing in a meeting at five to one and there I was in the team. I just couldn't wait to get to the ground and get started.

"Obviously I knew we had a few injuries, but I hadn't played a reserve game and it was whether the gaffer would chuck me in or not. Fortunately for me he did.

"It was frustrating when I first got here because I couldn't get out training with the boys. I stuck at it, worked hard and my rewards came on Saturday."

Michael, who produced a composed display of defending alongside Ledley King in limiting Liverpool attempts on our goal, revealed it was not his first trip to Anfield this season.

"It was all a dream come true, I couldn't wait to pull the white shirt on for the first time and it was great. I went to watch Liverpool earlier this season against Olympiakos and it was the first time I'd ever been to Anfield - I didn't expect to go back and play there this season. It was a great feeling.

"Leds is a great player and I've been waiting to play alongside him. He puts confidence in you when you are with him," he added on his pairing with the skipper before assessing the merits of the 2-2 final score.

"After a game you think different things, having looked back now I thought we did great in the first half hour and they didn't really have a chance up to the goal. That is what it is like against teams like that, they can create things out of nothing and it was a great goal.

"In the second half they had more possession and posed more problems, but I thought we dealt with them. We came away with a draw and are quite happy with it.

"I was just starting to get my second wind when Erik scored his goal so I didn't actually go over and celebrate with him. I was with Sean Davis in the middle celebrating.

"It was an amazing goal, I'm sure he couldn't believe it - you don't see them very often."

Of course, now Michael has sampled playing for Spurs in the Premiership for the first time, he admits there is a great hunger for more of the action. The next opportunity being West Brom at the Lane this evening.

"Definitely, once you've had a taste of something it is always nice. I thought I would be playing in the reserves but, once you've had a taste, of course you want more.

"It will be a tough game against West Brom. For me, who knows? You'll have to ask the gaffer on that.

"They've got some good players and I played with Ricky Scimeca at Forest. They have picked up some form in recent weeks and it will be hard - they are fighting for survival and we are fighting for sixth or seventh.

"I didn't think I would be playing a part as soon as this. The gaffer has had faith in me and hopefully I can repay him."
