Draw the least we deserved, says Cameron

15 December 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Cameron Carter-Vickers spoke highly of the team’s energy levels as he rounded off a busy few days on a personal level by playing his part in our Under-21s’ draw with Everton on Monday night.

Having been named as a substitute in last Thursday’s 4-1 Europa League win over Monaco, his first time as part of our senior matchday squad, the 17-year-old centre-back completed the full 90 minutes as we took on the Toffees in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League at Southport FC’s Merseyrail Community Stadium.

Liam Walsh fired the hosts ahead with just 10 minutes remaining, but Andros Townsend’s penalty ensured the game ended 1-1.

Always looking to make progress on the pitch, Cameron was largely happy with Monday night’s outing and felt the point gained was the least we deserved.

“After the first 10 minutes I thought we found our rhythm and controlled the game,” said the youngster, who represents the United States at Under-23 level.

“We performed well as a team and we deserved at least the draw. We continued doing what we’ve been doing in the games we’ve won and brought that energy and effort into this match.

“I felt we did well to come back and get a point after they scored so late, but if we’d gone home with nothing we would have been really disappointed.”

As for his appearance on the first team bench last week, Cameron was thrilled to be given that opportunity by Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino and highlighted how the experience can only benefit him going forward.

“It was the first time I’ve ever been on the bench – being in and around the changing room and warming up on the pitch with the players was a great experience,” he said. “I’ve been hoping for that for a long time, so it was great to be involved.”
