Douglas Spivey RIP
21 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
We were saddened to learn of the recent passing of our former winger Douglas Spivey who died last Tuesday following illness. He was 81.
Born in North Shields, he joined Spurs in 1950 but had to wait until October, 1954, to make his senior debut when he played in a friendly at Queens Park Rangers. We lost that game 2-1 with Alf Ramsey our goalscorer.
Others in the team that day included England international goalkeeper Ted Ditchburn, Charlie Withers, Bill Nicholson, Eddie Baily and Len Duquemin. Douglas was released at the end of that season and returned to North Shields where he continued to play football until into his 40s.
We extend our condolences to his family and friends at this sad time. The funeral takes place in Tynemouth today (Tuesday, July 21).
