Glenn Hoddle has expressed that there is nothing serious to worry about on the injury front.
Eyebrows were certainly raised in the press box at Layer Road when Jamie Redknapp and Stephen Carr didn't play in our 3-1 win against Colchester United last night.
Ledley King, Les Ferdinand, Steffen Iversen, Anthony Gardner, Stephen Clemence, Alton Thelwell, Tim Sherwood, Steffen Freund and World Cup trio Kasey Keller, Teddy Sheringham and Christian Ziege have yet to feature in pre-season friendlies.
But Glenn insisted that most were simply carrying minor knocks, that Jamie would be playing against Bournemouth on Thursday night and, with so many friendlies lined up, it was simply a case of mixing and matching.
Glenn explained: "We've got quite a few unavailable still, 11 out, but nothing too serious, which is the good news.
"We've had Sunday, tonight, Thursday, another two games at the weekend, we're mixing and matching a little and Jamie will play down at Bournemouth on Thursday.
"We were without Teddy, Steffen Iversen and Les and that's why we used Gary Doherty as a striker, which he can do, we know that.
"We had a trialist, a couple of young lads who have been groomed through the youth team and we've had a nice mixture. We've tried to balance the teams off in the first matches we've played."
Big Doc put us 1-0 up in Richard Wilkins' Testimonial but in a scrappy first half, the home side levelled through Gavin Johnson.
The second half was a more lively affair, if still a little stop-start, but we were in charge and further goals from Oyvind Leonhardsen and youngster Lee Barnard - his first for the first team - secured the 3-1 win.
Glenn added: "I felt the second half team did better than the first.
"We were a bit slow out of the traps and didn't quite have enough guile and the movement we want.
"That was below par but all in all it was another good run out and I don't think we've picked up any injuries."
