Doherty: Life's gone mad

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gary Doherty admits his life has gone mad since his two-goal burst in as many games at the start of the month.

On the fringes of the squad until late December, Doherty thought he’d blown his chance when he played up front in the disastrous display and defeat at Ipswich Town.

The versatile Irish international was, to his surprise, soon back in the fold though this time in defence in the memorable game against Newcastle just three days later.

He grabbed his second chance with both hands and scored his first goal for us in the 4-2 win and followed up with a last-minute FA Cup winner at Leyton Orient four days later.

The 20-year-old has now settled into a defence that has kept three successive clean sheets and has impressed with comfort on the ball and ability to pick a pass.

He reflected: “It’s weird how you get so much publicity after just a couple of games in the Premiership. Everyone seems to stand up and take notice of you, which is nice. I’ve just got to keep going and hopefully try to get some good results.”

Even his international boss Mick McCarthy chipped in with some nice words after the Orient game.

Doherty added: “Mick McCarthy has been saying a lot of nice things in the papers and hopefully he’ll back that up by putting me in the squad for Denmark in February!”
