Doherty confident

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gary Doherty is hoping a new air of confidence can spill over into our first Premiership away win at Manchester City on Saturday.

We travel to Maine Road on the back of Wednesday night’s memorable FA Cup triumph at Charlton.

Doherty helped inspire a three-goal burst in five magic minutes at The Valley to turn a 2-0 deficit into an eventual 4-2 win.

The victory made it two out of two on the road in the FA Cup but we are still searching for that first away success in the Premiership.

Doherty enthused: "We’re full of confidence now. We’ve kept a few clean sheets lately and we’re confident we can do it again.

"We know Manchester City will be hard and they are battling against relegation, which makes it tough, but we’re certainly confident."

The young Irishman’s career took another twist at The Valley.

He made his full debut this season up front at Ipswich, which he admits was a disaster, but then scored two goals on the trot when he was moved into a new-look back three that kept five clean sheets on the trot.

But he was thrown back up front in an emergency on Wednesday night and made quite an impact — setting up the first and fourth goals and generally creating havoc as we ran riot.

Manager George Graham now seems to have a dilemma with Doherty playing so well up front but Andy Booth is back after being cup-tied and Chris Armstrong is fit again so he might find himself back in defence again.

Doherty hinted at a preference for defensive duty but said: "Wherever the gaffer wants me to play I’ll play.

"I’ve been happy at the back, keeping the five clean sheets as a defender is what you want, but I was asked to go up front at Charlton and it went quite well. It’s up to him to decide.

"I’m my own worse critic and I was very harsh on myself after the Ipswich game but I moved the back, we’ve kept clean sheets and I’ve really enjoyed myself back there.

"Due to various reasons I had to go up front again against Charlton and I think I did all right for the team.

"I do really enjoy at the back though so we’ll have to see what happens."
