Doc's unwelcome break

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gary Doherty admits that the recent gap between our fixtures was not a welcome one from his point of view.

The game before the two and a half week break was the 4-4 draw with Leicester City in which he suffered the scoring of an own goal and a generally uncomfortable afternoon - one very out of character considering his performances this year.

The Republic of Ireland international was left out of the return to action against Middlesbrough, resulting in a full three weeks to mull over his misfortune. He was drafted back into the side for the game Newcastle on Sunday and he responded by playing a big part in the keeping of a clean sheet against the attack-minded Magpies.

A big relief?

"It is, my last game was against Leicester and I was just clear in my head that I wanted to defend and not take any chances because, obviously, the Leicester game was a nightmare for me," reflected Gary, who concedes that the experience affected him.

"We did keep a clean sheet and we defended well against Newcastle.

"Leicester affected me because the thing in football is that you can usually put it right quite quickly in the next game. I had over three weeks to think about it as I was left out against Middlesbrough.

"I had three weeks of it preying on my mind and you are only as good as your last game. I'm glad to have got that out of the way and put it behind me."
