Doc back on the ball
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Monday was a key day in Gary Doherty's rehabilitation from the broken leg he suffered in September - it was the first day he kicked a ball since the injury.
Doc sustained the shattering injury against Torquay in the Worthington Cup and, over the last two weeks, has been gradually stepping up his training, which involves a lot of running.
"It's going alright," reported Gary. "I've been running for the last couple of weeks and today I was kicking a ball for the first time.
"It was good - and things seem to be going well."
With a hint of relief in his voice, Gary revealed that there was no twinges or reaction from his leg after his ball work.
"It hasn't swollen up, the surgeon thought it might swell for a little while. It hasn't yet, so touch wood it will keep going well."
However, Gary is not doing the twist at full throttle just yet.
"Not at pace, just general twisting and turning. I'm still a bit wary of it, especially when twisting to the left it is still a bit sore. Once that clears up then I can start a bit of sprint work and that sort of stuff.
"It is a bit of mind games. You have to put in the first tackle or strike the ball for the first time. It's going to be a testing time for me, but until then I'll just try and keep building it and getting it stronger."
