Disappointment for captain Gus
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Gus Poyet feels that the team deserved some reward from their encounter with Newcastle on Sunday and describes himself as 'sad' over the outcome.
The Uruguayan says the final ball let the team down on the day after some very positive approach work, particularly in the first half.
"We were in possession of the ball, attacking well and really enjoying the game, but we were missing the last pass or the last cross," lamented Gus. "Apart from that we were great.
"When you go 1-0 down and don't deserve to you have to keep going and I think we did quite alright in the first half. The second half was a little bit different. It was difficult to get forward, it was busy in the middle and the pitch was already terrible.
"For the first 25 minutes we did okay."
Gus himself spurned what was perhaps the clearest chance created on 28 minutes following a superb cross from the returning Mauricio Taricco. Shay Given produced a superb point-blank save to deny him and Gus says the miss will be on his mind for a few days.
"I had a chance. It was the kind of one where you say I maybe hit it too well - I might have scored if I mis-kicked it a little bit.
"I will be thinking about it for a few days, for sure," added the captain for the day, who insists he was proud of the team's efforts.
"I think it is good to be in front of this team because I am proud of all of them - everybody tried their best but we are all disappointed.
"Maybe sad, the word is a little bit sad. We think we deserved a little bit better."
