Disappointment for Benoit against Croatia

Thu 19 June 2014, 07:00|Tottenham Hotspur

It was a disappointing night for Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Cameroon at the World Cup on Wednesday, as they suffered their second consecutive group stage defeat.

Following on from last Friday’s 1-0 reverse against Mexico, the African side slumped to a 4-0 defeat against Croatia to end their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages from Group A.

A goal down after just 11 minutes, their cause wasn’t helped when they were reduced to 10 men five minutes before the interval.

Despite trying their luck with a series of efforts in the moments that followed, one of which was set up by Benoit, Cameroon were unable to find a way back into the contest with Croatia finding the net three more times in the second period.

Benoit, who played the full 90 minutes against Croatia, could line up against Paulinho when Cameroon face Brazil in their final outing at the tournament on Monday (kick-off 9pm).
