Disappointment for Ben
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Ben Bowditch admits that the calling off of the World under-20 Championships has come as a big disappointment to him.
The event was due to take place in the UAE at the end of the month but, with great uncertainty over security in the region, it was decided that postponement was the sensible option.
Ben has been a regular in England age group teams and looked likely to make the trip. He fully accepts the reasoning behind the decision, but is disappointed all the same.
"It is disappointing, it was something I was looking forward to and it would have been the experience of a lifetime," he reflected.
"I don't know too much about it, although I am well aware of what is going on. If I was selected there was no way I would have pulled out, but obviously it would have been a worry.
"I think the right decision has been made to call the championships off. I think everyone is a bit relieved that we're not taking that risk."
Ben must now hope that he still falls in the under-20 bracket when the championship is rescheduled.
"There have been rumours about taking it to Japan or maybe postponing it until next season - I don't really know."
Meanwhile, Ben is delighted that another Bowditch is beginning to make an impact in the professional game. Brother Dean has earned rave reviews for his performances for Ipswich in recent weeks.
"He's doing really well and I'm really pleased for him. It's a great club for him to be at and I know they think very highly of him. He's just got to keep his head screwed on and keep performing like he has done in the last couple of games.
"He doesn't look out of place even though he is only 16."
