Dinamo Tbilisi vs Spurs - '73 gallery special!
21 August 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
This week's Europa League play-off isn't the first time we've travelled to Georgia to take on Dinamo Tbilisi.
Turn the clock back almost 40 years and we made the trip to the former Soviet Union after drawing Dinamo Tbilisi in the third round of the UEFA Cup.
The first leg was at Dinamo's Locomotive Stadium on November 28, 1973.
Ralph Coates hammered home the opening goal after 25 minutes but after a number of fine saves from Pat Jennings, Dinamo levelled through Kakhi Asatiani with 17 minutes remaining.
As was often the case in the glory, glory days under Bill Nicholson, the lads steamrolled home in the second leg at White Hart Lane, this time with a 5-1 win on December 12, 1973. Martin Peters and Martin Chivers scored two goals each with Chris McGrath, just 19, completing the scoring.
The team went all the way to the final where we lost 4-2 on aggregate to Feyenoord.
The photographs in the gallery are all from that trip to Tbilisi and were published in our official matchday programme.
