Dinamo Tbilisi 0-5 Spurs - delight for Andros
23 August 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Andros Townsend reflected on his outstanding display against Dinamo Tbilisi and declared: "That's what I have to do."
The winger was in dynamic form in the Dinamo Arena in our Europa League play-off, first leg on Thursday night.
Andros opened the scoring in fine style with a 50-yard run and fierce drive into the corner in the 12th minute.
He then set-up Paulinho’s first goal for the club by turning his marker inside-out and chipping the ball on a plate to the Brazilian, who nodded home from a couple of yards.
Another burst down the right led to the third as Roberto Soldado converted his cut back from the byline.
Danny Rose curled home the fourth and Roberto completed the scoring with his second goal, this time from Nacer Chadli’s cross.
“Every time I get a chance I have to continue to be affective in matches, to score goals and make assists,” reflected Andros.
“Hopefully if I get another opportunity I’ll do the same.”
It was an impressive display and Andros said the team will now look to do a professional job to secure our progress in the second leg at the Lane next Thursday, August 29.
“It’s a tough place to go to but once we got that first goal, it was a lot easier,” he said. “Now we have to see the job out at White Hart Lane. The fans will be behind us and I’m sure it will be a good occasion.”
First up, it’s Swansea at home on Sunday (4pm) as we return to Premier League action.
“Swansea are a good side, everyone saw that last season, how well they play and keep the ball,” added Andros. “It will be tough and we’ll have to be on our game.”
