Digger's Diary

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

I'LL START with my shin injury. Basically, I had an injection in it last week and was told a week to 10 days, so in a couple of days it might improve further. It has improved a bit but not enough. It has to be pain-free otherwise when I go out and do something it will flare up again. I'm just waiting for the pain to go. There is still some inflammation in there and that's what's causing the pain. It's difficult because even walking on it isn't ideal, it's that type of problem. It's frustrating but that the way it's been this season.

I DIDN'T really have an injury before this season. I had five or six seasons injury free. I think I missed one game at Derby with a slight thigh strain and Glenn Hoddle was here and that's been injury wise. I had a game suspension as well but apart from that, I've always been involved in the games or on the bench. Some players miss games with a niggling injuries and perhaps that helps their bodies but when you are always playing it will catch up with you eventually.

YOU HAVE to look up to players like Jamie Redknapp because of the injuries he's had and the way he handles it. You have to stay positive - I will be back playing soon and you have to look at it like that. When I had my hip problem and he was coming back from his knee we were training in the gym together every day and he would say 'you'll be back' and you look at him and his injury problems, the character he's shown to come back, not that many people would have done it. He just wants to play as much as he can and he's now back in the team. He's our captain and an inspirational person and player. That's why he's our captain. He gets down as well but he always comes through it.

EVERYONE thinks it's an easy life being injured but it's far from that, in fact it's the worst thing about football by a million miles. You just want to play. The end of the season is approaching now and it feels like I've had a year out of football because this season just hasn't happened for me. In the back of my mind I'm already thinking about next season, getting back, get in the team and start again. We've nine games left and I'd love to be able to play in the last five or six. That's my aim. It's been so frustrating and it can really let it get to you and it does get to you. Hopefully I'll do that and we've a couple of internationals in the summer as well and that's it, head down and get ready for next season.

I HAVEN'T seen a lot of the Manchester United game but from what I've seen and from what the lads said we were quite tidy up there but it's just a dificult game. The conditions were terrible and it was 1-0 for a long time, we've pushed forward to try and get an equaliser and they've caught us on the break. We are an improving side, everyone can see that and I'm confident about next season.

I LOOK at where we are at the moment in the table and it's all down to our poor start. Just after the new year we lost one on eight in the Premiership and that got us out of trouble. It's not easy but we were one of the top form sides for January and February. If we'd have had a half-decent start to the season and even sat in mid-table when we put that run together we would have been right up there now. First and foremost we had to get ourselves out of trouble and we did that.

EVERY game from now to the end of the season is like a cup final. Once you get into single figures it seems to go really quickly, the games fly by and the end of the season comes really quickly. We have to take one game at a time in our position. Our highest position in the Premiership is seventh and we can get past that. It's all about going on runs at the right time and although we've some tough games coming up, as long as we keep taking points out of them, nicking points against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, then we've got every chance to topple seventh and that would be an unbelievable finish to this season.

WE GO to Southampton on Saturday. I didn't play in the home game when Glenn was sacked but I played in the FA Cup when we got hammered down there and that was a horrible experience, all live on BBC. It couldn't have been worse. I won't be playing but I'm sure the lads will be up for that one. I remember the cup game well. In the dressing room after we just wanted to play the game again, it couldn't have gone worse. I'm sure that will inspired the lads to want to put it right.
