It was hugely disappointing and we don't really know where the performance came from. We were all so confident before the game after Leeds and Liverpool but we started badly and never recovered.
Obviously I went from that disappointment to probably the biggest game of my life for Wales against Italy in the San Siro.
It was an amazing occasion to be part of but it didn't quite work out for us. I ended up playing right back which wasn't ideal but I was happy to be involved. The San Siro was fantastic and probably the noisiest atmosphere I've ever experienced, it was deafening at times.
I thought we started off well and for the first half-hour we were the better side. Ryan Giggs had a chance and we caused them problems - a lot of people have said that. They are a great side though and once they got into their stride they were very difficult to contain for what was an inexperienced back four.
I know a few stories came back to England from my time with Wales that I was unhappy with my form at Spurs. I was asked the question and I simply told the truth - I do feel like I've had a tough few months. I started so well in my Spurs career and it has been difficult maintaining that level, it's been a quiet time for me and I haven't influenced games like I did before. I was just being honest really but I'm confident I'll soon be back at that level again. I've never doubted that.
With that in mind, I must admit scoring in Wednesday's game against Finland was a huge boost for me. I started back in midfield and I really wanted to have a good game. To score so early was such a fantastic feeling but then Finland got on top, they played well and you have to give them credit. We went down to 10 men and it was a battle. We got a draw in the end and at least that was good enough for a play-off spot. We were talking afterwards and said that if we'd been offered that before we'd have taken it but we started so well in the group that there is a bit of disappointment there.
It was great to score though and I'm hoping to go on a run now. Once that went in I felt so relieved and now I'm determined to get back to where I was.
Chelsea are next on Saturday and everyone is up for it. Some of the lads have had a break, so they'll feel a bit fresher and I feel fine physically. Luckily enough my fitness is good and I can't wait to get out there.
It's exciting times for Chelsea and they've a lot of quality players but we did well there last season, could have won it, should have beaten them at home as well, so we'll go there confident. We just need to get back to the form we showed against Leeds and Liverpool and hopefully Fulham will just be a blip.
No-one was more disappointed than the lads after Fulham and now we want to put that right for ourselves and the fans.
All the best,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Simon
