Difficult day - Paulinho

Sun 04 May 2014, 14:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Paulinho was left to reflect on the impact of going down to 10 men so early in Saturday's defeat at West Ham and 'a big mistake' for the second goal that left us with a mountain to climb.

After an even start, Younes Kaboul’s red card on 25 minutes handed the initiative to the Hammers and they took advantage within minutes when Andy Carroll’s header deflected home off Harry Kane.

Stewart Downing doubled the lead just before half-time when his free-kick went between Paulinho and Emmanuel Adebayor in the defensive wall and left Hugo Lloris with no chance.

Hugo produced a string of fine saves to keep it at 2-0 while we maintained good levels of possession with 10 men and created half-chances without really looking like getting back into the game.

“It was difficult after losing Younes,” said the midfielder. “Also, for the second goal, we made a mistake, myself and Ade. We spoke in the dressing room and that was a big mistake. We know that.

“It was tough to create chances. We had the ball but when you only have 10 men it’s difficult. That’s football. We have to look forward and try to win the last game.”
