Dier at the double!

Mon 25 August 2014, 23:01|Tottenham Hotspur

Eric Dier is keeping his feet on the ground – despite a dream start to his Spurs career.

The versatile defender marked his full home debut by making it two goals in as many Premier League starts in our fine 4-0 victory against QPR on Sunday.

After his dramatic late winner at West Ham last week, Eric darted to the near post to head home Erik Lamela’s corner for the second goal against Rangers.

His goal was sandwiched between a double for Nacer Chadli and Emmanuel Adebayor completed the scoring in the second half.

“I said last week that I’d love to score more, so I’m really happy to score again and the most important thing is that we won and won well, so that’s good,” said the England Under-21 international.

“We were playing well before the first goal and we kept pushing and trying to play attacking football. That’s how the gaffer wants to play. At half-time he told us not to stop, to keep going and that’s what we did.”

Eric had a chuckle after we suggested that after two goals in two games, he must be wondering what all the fuss is about with the Premier League after joining us from Sporting Lisbon.

“I’m not going to get carried away,” he said. “I know it’s not easy, far from it. I don’t think anyone will get carried away, the gaffer won’t allow that.

“It’s still early days but it’s really nice to be playing such good football.”
