DIDIER'S MUNTARI MISSION

Didier Zokora is relishing the prospect of his match-up with Portsmouth’s man of the moment Sully Muntari on Saturday. The Ghana international snapped up for £7m from Italian side Udinese in the summer was the name on everyone’s lips last weekend after his fine display against Aston Villa.

One of Ghana’s stars in the 2006 World Cup – he scored in the 2-0 win against the Czech Republic – Muntari drilled home two spectacular strikes in Pompey’s 3-1 win at Villa, helping Harry Redknapp’s side to their sixth-successive away win in the Barclays Premier League.

He’s a player Didier knows well from African competition and the Ivory Coast international can’t wait to lock horns both with Muntari and another player he’s familiar with in Senegal midfielder Pape Bouba Diop.

“Muntari is a big player,” said Didier. “He’s in midfield and in my position. He has a great shot with his left foot. It is my job to stop him and I want to win that challenge. If you win the challenge in midfield, you win the game - it’s like a mini-game within the match.

“The team is confident, we've had good results against Anderlecht and Manchester City and mentally, that’s good news. The players are ready for Portsmouth and we are ready to play again.”

In fact, Pompey are packed with familiar faces for Didier including Muntari, Diop, Benjani (Zimbabwe), Lauren (Cameroon), Kanu and Utaka (Nigeria). “They are all great players and a great team at the moment,” added Didier.

“To take three points at Villa is a great result because Villa are very strong at home. So it won’t be easy and they are playing well but if we win there, the confidence will come all the way back.”
