Deserved win - Andre

Andre Villas-Boas pinpointed our quality in possession as key to a deserved and vital victory at Stoke on Sunday.

Emmanuel Adebayor tapped home from Clint Dempsey’s low cross seven minutes from time to secure a 2-1 win in a typically competitive clash at the Britannia Stadium.

Clint had earlier scored a fine equaliser after Steven Nzonzi headed home the opening goal for Stoke in the third minute.

Scott Parker looked for Aaron Lennon, goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was drawn out but the ball was cleared by Marc Wilson straight to the US striker, who fired back first-time from 35 yards.

We were in control by the time Charlie Adam received a second yellow card early in the second half, leaving the home side with 10 men for 40 minutes.

We chipped away – a shot count of 23-6 in our favour tells the story – and finally got our reward for a 10th away win the Premier League this term.

“It was thoroughly deserved,” said Andre. “It was difficult circumstances going 1-0 down so early.

“We came into the game in a positive way because we kept on moving the ball, we were very patient and it was about passing and not giving the ball away. The players did that fantastically well.

“It was particularly good at half-time because the players knew exactly what they had to do, we spoke about it and their attitude in the second half was immense.

“I think we got what we deserved, the result was fair.

“We now go into the final weekend of the season and hopefully we’ll be rewarded for what we have done this season.”
