Derby analysis: Ziege on Mustafi and Kane's potential return
05 November 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Shkodran Mustafi has earned rave reviews for his displays in the Arsenal defence since his arrival from Valencia in August. Christian Ziege knows him well, having coached him at international youth level with Germany. Here's what Christian had to say about Mustafi and a potential return to action for Harry Kane in Sunday's derby at the Emirates.
55 appearances for Spurs, 2001-04
Euro 96 winner with Germany
Played in 2002 World Cup Final
Title winner with Bayern Munich and AC Milan
Currently coach of Atletico Baleares in Spain
Christian: "Yes, Mustafi is a player I coached at youth level. I had two or three weeks to prepare that squad for a tournament and there were fantastic players like Mustafi, Antonio Rudiger is at Rome, Moritz Leitner is at Lazio and Kevin Volland, who came on for Leverkusen at Wembley. It's great to see them doing well."

'He reads the game'
Christian: "They used to say about Mustafi that he was a little slow, couldn’t move but he has improved, he’s always talking, helping his team-mates with their positioning, he reads the game, he’s intelligent and his passing out of defence is outstanding. It’s a bit like Per Mertersacker, a bit slow at times, but he knows the game and understands the game. He’s a good signing for them."
On Harry's return to the squad
Christian: "Harry Kane potentially coming back is really important. The way he’s played over the years, he’s a natural goalscorer. I like him because it seems to me he came out of nowhere and just broke out and kept scoring."

'I hope Harry scores not one, but two or three!'
Christian: "Harry has been out for six weeks and normally you need some games to come back in. If he plays a part, perhaps it will take him time to get back into it but one thing's for sure - he knows how to score. I just hope if he plays he scores not one, but two or three against Arsenal. If Spurs manage to win this game it would be a massive boost."

'Games I'll never forget'
Christian: "The north London derbies were fantastic. In my day, Arsenal had the likes of Henry, Bergkamp, Vieira, Pires, Ljungberg. Not many teams did much at Highbury but we had some good games at White Hart Lane. They are the games I will never forget.”
