Dembele's dream becomes reality

15 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Mousa Dembele described the prospect of representing Belgium in their first World Cup Finals since 2002 as 'an unbelievable feeling'.

Mousa and Spurs team-mates Jan Vertonghen and Nacer Chadli were singing in the rain in Croatia after Belgium secured the win to top the group and qualify automatically for next summer’s finals in Brazil.

Needing only a draw in Zagreb, Jan started and both Nacer and Mousa came off the bench in the second half as Belgium won 2-1, stretching their qualifying record to eight wins and a draw in nine matches. They complete their campaign at home to Wales tonight.

“It wasn’t an easy job to win in Croatia, that’s why the win was extra special,” said Mousa.

“We were all very happy. It feels very good to qualify. Everyone knows we have a lot of quality in the squad and expected us to make it to the finals.

“It’s not always that easy though and that’s why we’re all happy. We want to try and win the final game as well.”

So how would it feel to step out in Brazil? “It will be an unbelievable feeling, he first World Cup for us (this squad), and something very special.

“People expect a lot from us and we hope we can do something special. Now we’re there, we want to go as far as possible.”
