Mousa Dembele was delighted to get back on the scoresheet in Tromso - but cited a return to winning ways as all important.
The midfielder provided a clinical finish from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s pass to make it 2-0 in the second half of Thursday night’s Europa League encounter at the Alfheim Stadium.
It was Mousa’s first goal since his dramatic late strike to beat Lyon in the last 32 of the competition last season.
More importantly, it put the issue beyond doubt on the night and helped us take the first step on the road to recovery after last weekend’s loss at City.
“It was a good goal, I was very happy,” said Mousa, who maintained his record of playing in every game - now 21 - so far this season.
“Of course, it was important to show that we don’t give up and we all hope for a very good season. I was pleased we won and now we have to move on again.”
We move on to one of the headline games of the season – reigning champions Manchester United at the Lane as we return to Premier League action on Sunday.
“It will be a difficult game, but we have confidence,” he said. “I think at home we have to try and do everything and we’ll go for the win, of course.”
Meanwhile, Nacer Chadli returned to the starting line-up for the first time since scoring in our group stage win at Anji on October 3.
“I’m very happy to play again,” he said. “I’ve been injured for a long time, now I’m okay and happy to play for 70 minutes. I hope I’ll get better as the weeks go by.”
