Delighted to be here - Parker

Scott Parker cannot wait to get started as a Tottenham player.

Scott Parker cannot wait to get started as a Tottenham player.

The England international was snapped-up from West Ham on transfer deadline day last week.

The 30-year-old trained for the first time with his new team-mates today (Thursday, September 8) after returning from international duty.

The all-action, competitive midfielder has been impressed with what he's seen at Spurs from the outside looking in over the last few years.

"It’s evident how much the club has progressed," said Scott, who admitted to a few nerves before his first training session.

"Tottenham have always been a very big club in terms of the players they’ve attracted and the way they’ve played, that certain style of football.

"It’s a fantastic club and over the last few years there have been some very big players here. The club is only going in one direction and I’m delighted to be part of it now. Hopefully I can add something as well."

Scott initially burst onto the scene at Charlton in the early 2000s and his performances reached new levels last term when he was named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers Association, even though West Ham were relegated.

"Things have gone really well for me over the last few years, especially over the last year," he added.

"I’ve broken into the England team and last season, although we eventually got relegated, on a personal level I played some of the best football I’ve played.

"My main target is always to keep fit and then to try and force my way into the team here, try to stay in there and help the team as much as I can.

"I hope my qualities, which might be different to other players here, can bring something different to the team and add to it, that we can move up the league and have a good season."
