Delight for debutants

16 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Keanan Bennetts summed-up the feeling of our goalscoring debutants after our Under-21s’ 3-2 win at Norwich by stating: “It doesn’t get much better!”

Keanan, just 16, was handed his U21 debut in front of the live TV cameras and almost 7,000 fans at Carrow Road. He was joined in the line-up by Ryan Loft, making his first start for the U21s while Dylan Duncan came off  the bench for his debut late on.

Unfazed by their high-profile first starts, both Keanan and Ryan responded with goals as we finally got the better of the Canaries thanks to Anton Walkes’ late strike.

“I was really pleased, first to get the debut and to then get the goal as well, fortunate as it was, was a good feeling and it was great to get the win,” said Keanan, who touched home Filip Lesniak’s shot to open the scoring.

“Filip had the shot and I got a touch on it. I had to tell him straight away ‘that’s mine’ - you can’t take away my debut goal, no way!”

As for his debut, Keanan added: “Physically it’s different, the intensity is bigger but it’s just about adapting to a new group of players and trying to impose my style as well.

“All the club’s ages play the same way so the players made it easy for me to jump in.”

Ryan has eight goals in as many games for the Under-18s this season - including a hat-trick against Norwich at the weekend!

“For every striker, scoring goals is what you get judged on and when you’ve been scoring goals for the Under-18s, you need to be able to bring that up to the Under-21s,” he said.

“It will be harder, but if you score goals at Under-21 level as well, that can only be a boost when you are trying to push forward.

“Hopefully I’ll continue scoring goals for the Under-18s, I feel confident and once you score a few goals, you want to keep pushing forward.”
