Dele Alli spoke of a real desire in the squad to win at Southampton.
The disappointment was palpable after the home loss against Newcastle and after draws against Chelsea and West Brom, Dele said the lads were driven to get maximum points on the board at St Mary’s.
“Newcastle was tough to take and we knew it was important to turn things around,” said Dele.
“We had to put that result behind us and we were hungry for it. We worked hard in training all week and were ready for the fight.”
The midfielder went on to score the second goal as a quick fire one-two from Dele and Harry Kane put us in control at 2-0 just before half-time.
“I’d definitely say we’ve played better than that over 90 minutes, we started slowly and they were on top in the first 20 minutes but as time went on we found our rhythm, started playing, kept the ball, the goal came and the second followed quickly,” he added.
“We knew it was important to get the second goal and kill the game off. That was the problem last week. We couldn’t settle for one goal and we had to keep working and score the second. Once we did that we knew we could be more patient but we were always looking for the third.”
