Dele Alli was delighted to mark his first match in a Spurs shirt with a goal in Wednesday’s behind-closed-doors friendly win against Brentford.
The midfielder entered the fray in the second half and capped an all-action display by first winning and then converting a late penalty for 2-0.
Earlier, Shaq Coulthirst was also successful from the spot as we made it three out of three in friendlies against Southend, Reading and now Brentford at Hotspur Way. The visitors grabbed a late reply through Jermaine Udumaga - full report here...
“I know it’s pre-season but it’s always good for the confidence to be winning games,” said Dele, whose impressive displays for MK Dons (16 goals in 38 games) earned both the Football League Young Player of the Year Award and a place in the PFA’s League One Team of the Year last term.
“It’s also a huge weight off my shoulders to get that first goal because sometimes you can get into a run of form where you just can’t find a goal, so I’m happy to pick up where I left off last season.”
Brentford worked us hard and Dele said that’s to be expected. “Teams aren’t going to come here and lay down for us, they have a point to prove and they are preparing for their season as well, so they will work as hard as they can and make it difficult for us. Brentford did just that.”
