Dele's delight at new deal
12 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Dele Alli says he's delighted to put pen to paper on a new contract with the Club that will run until 2021.
The young midfielder has made quite an impact since his summer arrival from MK Dons.
Having taken League One by storm last term - his 16 goals helped MK to promotion and he was named Football League's Young Player of the Year - Dele's outstanding form has continued in a Spurs shirt this season.
He scored his first goal in his third appearance off the bench at Leicester and has gone on to score five goals and make four assists in 26 appearances in all competitions, including three goals in his last six starts in the Premier League.
His form caught the eye of England boss Roy Hodgson and having earned his first three senior caps off the bench in October and November, he marked a first full cap with a stunning, 25-yard goal past his Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the 2-0 friendly win against France at Wembley on November 17.
Congratulations on your new contract, how do you feel?
Dele: "I’m delighted. The club has been really great to me since I arrived, we’ve a great young team and I can only see us going forward. I’m really happy to be here."

How would you describe your first six months at Spurs?
Dele: "It’s not been easy but like I said, there are a great bunch of lads here and they have all helped me settle in so well. I can’t thank them and the staff enough. They’ve helped me settle in and made it easy for me to go out there and do my stuff."
How important is that side of a move, away from the training pitch and the matches?
Dele: "It’s massive. It helps with your confidence (coming to a new club) and helps you to focus fully on the football, knowing you haven't got too much to worry about. That’s important especially as a young player moving away from home and moving here. It can be quite scary at times but everyone has helped me settle in so well and the fans have been brilliant to me, I can’t thank them enough."
What about moving house and moving down from Milton Keynes, that must have been a testing time for someone so young?
Dele: "I’m quite grown up! Although a lot of people might disagree! It’s all been good but I can’t thank people enough for how they’ve helped me to settle in and that’s made it easy for me to go out and play football."
As for on the pitch, it must have gone to plan - or even better!
Dele: "I was always confident in my ability. When I moved here a lot of people (outside the club) were talking about loans but when I signed, I wanted to play for Tottenham and I wasn’t thinking about going anywhere else. The manager has helped me a lot and thankfully, I’ve broken in (to the first team) and got a few games now. I’ve been able to show what I can do and establish myself as a Premier League player. I know I still have a lot to learn and can’t think of a better place to do that."
It seems a perfect match of styles - your style and the style Mauricio Pochettino has the team playing...
Dele: "When I moved from MK with the philosophy they have as a club it was important I found that wherever I went and the football here really fits me as a player and all the people help me. I’ve a lot to learn and this is a great club to do that."

You've teamed-up well with Eric Dier - your 'big brother' - how much of a help has Eric been?
Dele: "He’s a great player and as an attacking player, he’s made it easier for me. I give him a lot of credit for the way I’ve been playing. We always have a lot of banter about it but as an attacking player it gives you so much confidence going forward when you have that security behind you."
How far does the big brother extend - is he sorting your meals and washing as well?
Dele: "I’ve asked him to! He’s a great guy and he looks after me a lot. He’s taken me out a few times, it’s been good."
Of course, your form at Spurs led to a senior England call and that superb debut goal against France in November. You taken that international exposure in your stride...
Dele: "I’ve great people and support around me to keep my feet on the floor and to keep focusing on the football. Even with this contract, nothing changes, I’ll work as hard as I can on and off the pitch and do as well as I can."
