Dele to relish Three Lions call - Mauricio
07 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino is confident Dele Alli has the personality and mentality to handle his first senior England call.
The young midfielder, 19, has been named in Roy Hodgson's squad for the Three Lions' final Euro 2016 qualifying matches against Estonia at Wembley on Friday and Lithuania in Vilnius on Monday (October 12).
Snapped up from MK Dons in February, Dele was loaned back to MK and completed an outstanding campaign in League One, scoring 16 goals in 39 league games to help the Dons to promotion. His performances were recognised with a place in the PFA's League One Team of the Season and he was voted the Football League's Young Player of the Season.
His displays in pre-season earned a place on the bench in our Premier League opener at United and having entered the fray for his debut at Old Trafford, Dele has gone from strength to strength, scoring his first Spurs goal on his third substitute appearance at Leicester and now starting our last four Premier League matches.
After caps at Under-17, 19, 20 and 21 levels, Dele received his first senior call while the team was in Monaco for last week's Europa League Group J match.
"We're all happy for Dele," said Mauricio. "It’s important to look after him and we have a very good relationship with Roy Hodgson and his staff and the national team.
"We need to provide him with the best conditions to help him keep his feet on the ground, that’s the most important thing.
"Dele is very mature and has a personality that he shows on the pitch and outside, so I don’t think it’s a big issue. He needs to enjoy his moment and now we need to work hard to look after him."
