Delaney on Davies

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Mark Delaney insists Simon Davies has a huge future with Spurs and Wales.

The pair were brought up in Haverfordwest and faced each other when Delaney took his place in Aston Villa’s line-up at the Lane on Saturday.

Delaney has made a rapid rise after a storming season with Cardiff City in 1998-99.

Villa snapped up the full-back for £2.5m at the start of 1999-2000 and he has been a regular since and won eight full Welsh caps.

Midfielder Simon is following a similar path. He was bought as part of a double deal alongside Matthew Etherington from Peterborough United in January last year and after plugging away in the reserves this season grabbed his chance with a brace against Stockport County in February.

He has been in and around the first team since and capped his emergence with a first full Wales cap against Ukraine.

Delaney said: “Simon’s done really well. He’s from the same neck of the woods as I am so it’s nice to play in a game with two local lads from Haverfordwest.

“I’m sure the people back home will be delighted about that.

“Simon’s come on really well and I’m delighted for him. He came on as substitute for Wales and that showed how far he’s come in a short space of time.

“He’s definitely a player Wales are looking at for the future. He’s a midfield player, a creative player and there are not many of those about. He’s of a young age as well and that’s precisely what we need with Wales.

“It’s nice to see his name on the team sheet in recent weeks. Hopefully with Glenn Hoddle at the club he can nurture him along and he will be a big hit at Spurs.”
