Defoe's set piece surprise
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Jermain Defoe admits he was slightly surprised that the free-kick routine that led to his first goal against West Brom went to plan - it is not always the case on the training ground.
Most people in the ground - including the Albion players, at a guess - fully expected either Michael Carrick or Reto Ziegler to have shot on goal, from what was a tempting position just outside the area to the right.
Instead, Carrick simply passed the ball into the Defoe zone and the striker twisted and fired high over the keeper and into the net.
"We've been practicing that for ages on the training pitch, but have not really tried it before in games," reflected Jermain. "It was great, Michael still has to play a good ball, it was inch-perfect and I just had to connect.
"In training I normally scuff it over the bar, but it worked here."
His second goal resulted from superb work on the left by the unselfish Fredi Kanoute, who beat his man before picking out his advancing strike partner to blast home and make it 3-1.
"The amount of times he has done that for me this season is great, Fredi sets so many goals up for me," added Jermain, who conceded he had little chance of taking penalty taking duties off Robbie Keane just before half-time.
"At the end of the day Robbie is our penalty taker, even though I took the last one. You always try and get it, Fredi had the ball first, but I don't mind and I knew Robbie would stick it away.
"The first half was a lot different to the second for us. We changed it around after the break and played better.
"It is good, the FA Cup is special and if we can go all the way it would be great. It is good that we are through to the next round now and have a home tie against Nottingham Forest - it will be brilliant."
