Defoe's dream comes true
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Jermain Defoe says he's still on cloud nine after his first senior England goal in Poland on Wednesday.
Three goals in four Spurs games this season, Jermain got the nod ahead of Alan Smith to partner Michael Owen in attack and repaid Sven Goran Eriksson's faith with a superb strike in the first half of England's crucial 2-1 victory.
Picking up the ball from David Beckham in the box, Jermain spun and left Polish defender Glowacki for dead before volleying home from 10 yards.
"It was great to get my chance and to score, I don't know, it's hard to explain the buzz I feel," beamed Jermain this afternoon.
"It's something I've been waiting for all my life and when it happened it was a dream come true.
"It was a goal I'll never forget and night I'll never forget. As for the goal, David Beckham had the ball and everyone knows about his awareness, he always has his head up, he played it through to me and as soon as I got it in the box my first thought was to try and turn.
"I turned and I was quite surprised because no-one was there. I thought 'this is it' and knew I had to be calm, to do what I've done for all the years in training and it all worked out.
"I've seen the goal about 10 times now and it gets better every time.
"It's quite funny. I was with my girlfriend and my mum Sandra and it's crazy, it doesn't seem like it's me! I'm sitting there watching it, looking at all the papers and it's a strange feeling.
"Last night I was at home with all the family, mum, girlfriend and the goal came on Sky Sports. Suddenly my mum was getting all emotional, crying and she said to me 'that's what you've worked for'. Watching it time and time again, it's starting to sink in."
Back at Spurs Lodge this morning, the young striker was quick to state that he's keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
"Obviously I'm on a high and I want to stay there so it's all about working hard, day in, day out at Spurs," he added. "All I can do is keep doing my stuff and I will do that, believe me."
That continues against Norwich City in the Premiership at the Lane on Sunday.
