Defoe salutes the King

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Everyone was talking about Jermain Defoe after his stunning strike against Birmingham City - yet the striker deflected the attention onto Ledley King.

Ledley, who will join Jermain and Paul Robinson on England duty for the next 10 days, was outstanding again in central defence alongside Noureddine Naybet as we ran out 1-0 winners.

But, naturally, it was Jermain who grabbed the headline with his superb winner - a burst of pace between two defenders, a turn away from another and right-foot into the corner from 25 yards.

"I'm delighted to have scored but the most important thing was the three points," insisted in-form Jermain, three goals in four games so far.

"I thought Ledley was unbelievable and deserved man of the match. He looks so strong - Birmingham were always going to be a threat from corners and free-kicks but we didn't concede a goal.

"At the moment we're flying, we're playing well and to score was a bonus. I'm delighted.

"Browny did well, Noe played it into me and I turned between Matthew Upson and someone else, took another touch and decided I was going to hit it. To be honest it took a slight deflection but I think it was going in anyway.

"It was a great game and everyone enjoyed it. That's usually the case when you are winning.

"We defended well, the midfield was great with Pedro, Sean and Browny did well on the right as well. Everyone played their part. The atmosphere was great as well and that always gives everyone a lift. The lads are delighted."
