Defoe on song
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Jermain Defoe says he’s feeling sharp as the big Premiership kick-off approaches.
The England hitman lobbed home two exquisite goals in Saturday’s 2-0 friendly win against FC Porto in front of a packed White Hart Lane.
Portsmouth are next in his sights as we kick-off our league campaign at Fratton Park next Saturday.
Jermain became the first Spurs player to topple the 20-goal mark in all competitions since Teddy Sheringham and Chris Armstrong did the business in 1996-97 with his 22 goals last term.
He knows the goals will have to continue to flow with the likes of Robbie Keane, Mido and Fredi Kanoute all in form.
“I’ve worked hard pre-season, done my running, done my weights and I feel sharp,” said Jermain. “I’m happy with how it's gone because I’ve still a little work to do.
“It’s important for all the strikers to have goals in us because we’re going to have to produce.
“Everyone is in form. Robbie had a great tournament in South Korea, scored four goals, Mido is scoring as well and this time it was me. That’s great news for the club and hopefully we can take it into the season.”
All eyes were on Edgar Davids as the Dutch star made his Spurs debut but you just can’t keep Jermain out of the spotlight.
“I scored the hard one and missed the easy one!” he joked after his two-goal show. “I had a great chance in the first half when I won the ball off the defender but that was a good save from the keeper.
“Straight after that I had another chance and tried to chip him and he said to me ‘don’t try that again’ and we had a laugh together. So it was funny how it turned out.
“The first goal was a great pass from Michael Carrick that I managed to get onto, had a little look, tried the lob and it went in, great. The second goal was very similar, the keeper came out and made it easy for me to lift the ball over him. I was delighted with how it went.”
