Defensive delight for Glenn
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle was delighted with our defensive display in Saturday's 1-0 victory at West Ham.
An albeit blunted Hammers forward line missing Paolo Di Canio and Fredi Kanoute were left feeding off scraps with the back three of Dean Richards, Ledley King and Chris Perry in fine form.
In the end we grabbed three deserved points when Les Ferdinand pounced on a loose ball following David James' save from Gus Poyet's header.
"I was delighted with the way we defended," said Glenn afterwards. "With the ball we didn't really get out of second or third gear and we played better against the top five teams and got nothing for it. But the way we defended was excellent.
"As a team we defended solidly and I can't really see where they had a really genuine chance. Sully's not had too much to do. That is a delightful sign for us especially because as a club we've been criticised over the years as not being able to defend properly."
Glenn added that it was a 'big sign' to go to a place like Upton Park, play slightly below par and still come away with maximum points.
He said: "It was a good performance, nothing special but that's a great sign for me as manager to pick up an away win after playing like that.
"This is always a difficult place to come but to come here and get our third away win, when the club has struggled over the years to get away wins, that is a big sign for us.
"It's up to us now to back that up with good performances at home."
