Michael Dawson has welcomed the return from injury of Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul – insisting the competition for places in central defence will spur everyone on.
The club captain has been a defensive rock this term – he’s the only player to start each of our 24 Premier League matches to date and featured in 31 of 36 matches in all competitions.
Both Jan and Younes returned to the fray at Hull on Saturday.
Younes had been sidelined since late November with a thigh problem while Jan missed 12 matches after suffering an ankle injury at Fulham on December 4.
“It’s always good to have players back,” said Michael. “We’ve the Europa League starting again soon as well, so there are plenty of games.
“Jan, for me, is a world-class player. He’s cultured on the ball and a top defender as well.
“We’ve top players who want to play, so competition is high and you know you have to perform well to stay in the team.
“We all want the game time and we’re all pushing each other.”
