Kieran Trippier said it was a ‘good feeling’ to taste victory on his Spurs debut.
The former Burnley right-back was handed his first opportunity in a Lilywhite shirt in Thursday night’s Europa League victory over Qarabag at White Hart Lane, following his summer switch from Turf Moor.
Soon in the thick of the action, the 24-year-old brushed off the early disappointment of conceding the penalty which led to Qarabag’s opener to help us claim a 3-1 victory in Group J.
Reflecting on the game, Kieran was understandably disappointed at the decision that went against him, but was happy with his night overall.
“It felt good to make my debut and the crowd was fantastic,” he said. “It was unfortunate about the penalty. I don’t think it was a penalty but these things happen and I think we responded well.
“It was early in the game but we bounced back and got two quick goals, which was what we needed.
“Overall I’m delighted to get the win with all the lads.”
Erik Lamela rounded off the scoring late in the contest but our first two goals came courtesy of Heung-Min Son, who enjoyed a memorable home debut for us.
Kieran was delighted to see his fellow new recruit among the goals so quickly and said the consecutive victories we’ve registered this week – the team having won 1-0 at Sunderland last weekend – have set us up well for our forthcoming games.
“Sonny’s a quality player – he’s shown that in training and it’s no surprise that he scored two,” he added. “I thought he could have got his hat-trick as well.
“At the end of the day we’ve got back-to-back wins now, but we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves. We’ve got to concentrate on Palace on Sunday now and hopefully get the three points.
“For me, whenever I’m called upon I’ll make sure I do well for the team and the fans.”
