Dean Parrett scored the only goal as our Under-18s beat Birmingham City to make it eight wins on the trot in all competitions. The young midfielder strode forward from midfield and followed in the rebound from his own shot on the hour mark to secure maximum points in the FA Premier Academy League.
It means the lads are 11 matches unbeaten having won 12 of their last 14 in all competitions. They have won six successive games in the league.
"I was very pleased because conditions were tricky and I thought we played as well as we could in those conditions," reported coach Alex Inglethorpe.
"Birmingham have an FA Youth Cup tie coming up so changed their side a bit and fielded three overage players, so it's full credit to the lads that they played as well as they did. In fact, we could have won by a bigger margin.
"We had the better chances in the first half but we were happy to go in at 0-0 as we knew we would have the benefit of the strong wind in our favour in the second half. It was all about being clever enough to use that in our advantage.
"We grabbed what turned out to be the winner on the hour mark when Dean Parrett broke from midfield, timed his run perfectly and hit a shot that the keeper parried but Dean continued his run and buried the rebound.
"We could have extended the lead further but didn't and then had to defend well as Birmingham pushed on late on. Overall, a good win for us."
