Deano's the Maine man

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Maine Road is something of a lucky ground for our defensive giant Dean Richards - played three and not a goal conceded at the home of Manchester City.

His first visit there was as a Wolves player in October 1996 when a 1-0 scoreline was registered and he returned three years later with Southampton for a League Cup tie that ended goalless.

His most recent trip was in March 2001 when a Dan Petrescu goal for the Saints secured the points during City's last spell in the Premiership.

"I have played there three times and not lost - twice with Southampton and once with Wolves," recalled Dean, who feels that City's attacking intent should make for a lively encounter.

"It's always good to see teams playing like that, going out and having a go. Hopefully we can exploit any gaps that they leave at the back."

Dean knows that there is an expectation of the superb performance against Arsenal being replicated in the forthcoming games. He explains that it is not a straightforward task, but the team are seeking more of the same.

"It's not always as easy as that, but that is what we've got to aim to reproduce. Hopefully we can do that."

Deano will come up against a face from the past when the teams shape up on Monday - he could well be marking a player he first came up against while playing for Bradford City.

Shaun Goater, like Dean, has taken the long route to the top and both are now building considerable reputations for themselves.

"I've played against him a few times. Once in the early stages of my career at Bradford while he was at Rotherham and I've played him since he's been at Manchester City.

"He's always scored goals at whatever level he's played at and has done well. He always keeps going and it is always a tough game against him."
