Deano's progress pointer
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Dean Richards feels that Saturday's win over Aston Villa can act as a pointer to the way our season can progress.
After going through a difficult patch on our travels over the Christmas period before registering a home win against Everton, Dean did not underestimate the importance of another away win at this stage of the campaign.
"That one was a key game for us in the way that our season can progress," said Dean. "It was vitally important that we got three points and closed the gap on the teams above us.
"It was a big game for us and we're delighted to have got the points," he added before agreeing that even a draw would have been something of a downer heading into a ten day gap before the Newcastle game.
"Yes it would. Especially with the chances we had in the first half.
"When Robbie scored I'm not sure what happened there. I don't know if the referee gave Teddy offside or what, I know Robbie came from behind so he couldn't have been offside in that sense.
"With the chances we had, if we'd have come away with a point we'd have been disappointed. With getting the three everyone is delighted."
Just before Robbie's goal was struck off, Dean himself was denied by the post following his towering header.
"I was on the stretch so I couldn't direct it as much as I wanted to. I couldn't really get around, but managed to get something on it but it hit the post, unfortunately.
"I would have liked to have seen that one go in. I've scored here before for Southampton and we won that one as well, so it would have been nice to repeat that.
"I was saying that I've got a good record there and it is a place I enjoy playing. I think I've only lost once here for Wolves in the quarter-final of the League Cup. Apart from that I think I've enjoyed three or four wins here."
