Deano despair

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Dean Richards said that the disappointment of losing to leaders Liverpool is increased by the feeling that the team should have taken some reward from the game.

The boys were matching Liverpool in all departments and beginning to get on top when Danny Murphy struck the first blow on 72 minutes when little, if anything, looked on for the England international. Ten minutes later Dean headed a deserved leveller before a late Michael Owen penalty sealed the points for the Merseysiders.

To come out with nothing after such a stoic performance was what hit hardest for Dean as he emerged from the Anfield dressing room.

"That's the most disappointing thing," he reflected. "Sometimes you get beat and know you deserved to get beat - you hold your hands up and accept it. The hardest thing is when you deserve to get something out of a game and you lose - everyone is gutted."

After absorbing a period of first half pressure from Liverpool, Spurs set about their opponents after the break and Gus Poyet was denied by a great save from Jerzy Dudek and a goal line clearance from Didi Hamman. Murphy's opener did not look on the cards.

"That was the gameplan really - to frustrate them in the first half. We knew then that the more they came at us we'd get a bit more on the break.

"It was a great goal from Murphy, he picked his spot and you can't defend against them. Apart from that we kept them down to a minimum."

Dean's big moment came ten minutes after Liverpool took the lead. He swept a crossfield ball to Acimovic out on the left and bolted on into the Liverpool area. A flash of skill from Milo stole a yard from his marker Carragher and he dispatched a pinpoint cross into the danger area with Dean on hand to apply a powerful headed finish.

"We were 1-0 down and I thought I'd carry on into the box. I see what quality Milo has got most days in training and he sees me there at the back post and whips them in for me. He's got great quality in both feet and the ball came over for me. I'm happy with it."

While Dean says the team have no complaints over the penalty award for Liverpool's winner, he insists we should have had one after for a Carragher hand ball.

"It was a penalty, but we feel hard done by because we should have had a penalty as well for hand ball by Jamie Carragher. Robbie's tried to do him with a bit of skill and he's put his hand up - it was a penalty we thought.

"We can't argue that their's was a blatant one, but we should have had one as well."

"It's disappointing and everyone is gutted but, at the same time, you can take a lot out of coming to Liverpool and deserving to win. Not many teams do."
