Day to remember for Chinese student team

17 September 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Today we were delighted to welcome students from the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China to Hotspur Way for a training session alongside participants on the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Education and Football Development Centre programme.

China’s top ranked school team are in London as part of the 3rd UK-China High-Level People-to-People Dialogue, a forum jointly organised by the British Council and China’s State General Administration of Sports to discuss experiences, ambitions and plans for football development in both countries and explore areas to develop future collaboration.

The students from China received a unique experience at Hotspur Way, working with coaches from the Club’s Academy and Premier Skills, an initiative run in partnership between the Premier League and the British Council, and students of the same age from the Foundation programme run Barnet & Southgate College.

To top it all, Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele, who are not involved in tonight’s Europa League clash with Qarabag FK, dropped in on the session to meet all players involved.

The pair took part in a Q&A session and signed autographs as the two sets of players exchanged jerseys ahead of an exhibition match that will be held tomorrow and attended by high level delegates from the UK and China.

Christian said: “It was great for the students to visit the Training Centre and experience facilities such as this and high quality coaching that they can take back with them to China. I am also sure they learned from playing alongside players from a different country, as I am sure the boys from the UK would have done as well.”

Mousa added: “The game is growing fast in the Far East, especially China, as we have seen and the enthusiasm of the players from both countries was impressive. They are clearly passionate about their football and today is one they will never forget, I am sure.”
