Michael Dawson paid tribute to what could be described as the most consistent factor of last season - the support of the fans. Some 59 games were played by the first team, either in front of packed houses at White Hart Lane or a supporting cast of thousands on the road. Wherever the team went, Spurs fans followed in great numbers.

Daws pointed out that such backing makes a big difference and is much appreciated by the boys.

"It is important to us and our fans are fantastic," said the central defender, who featured in all but 135 minutes of our season.

"Hopefully we keep giving them something to cheer about - that is what it boils down to for us at the end of the day. We have to put on good performances, but they always turn out in their thousands week in, week out, wherever we are - you name it and they are there. That is credit to them.

"Believe me, the boys appreciate it. They spend a lot of money travelling around supporting us and we try to give us much back as we can. Hopefully next year we can win something for them."
