Daws on Watford and Doyley
Our pre-season preparations take us from New York to Watford and a friendly against Gianfranco Zola’s new team on Sunday.
We faced the Championship side at Vicarage Road just six months ago – when we were somewhat fortunate to come away with a 1-0 win in the FA Cup, fourth round, Rafa van der Vaart’s strike the difference.
“Vicarage Road is always a difficult place to go and that FA Cup tie was no different,” said Michael Dawson, who played in the narrow victory in January.
“It was a Friday night, a bit heavy underfoot and we scraped through. I’m sure it will be just as tough even if it’s a friendly this time.”
The match marks a testimonial for Watford defender Lloyd Doyley, who has played over 350 matches for the Hornets since turning professional in 2001.
“I’ve played against him a number of times, even going back to my days at Forest,” added Michael.
"He's always been a good player and a fantastic professional.
“It’s a tremendous achievement to play at the same club for 10 years so full credit to him, I’m sure he’s looking forward to Sunday.”
Meanwhile, ‘Daws’ described our tour of the USA as ‘fantastic’.
“It’s been enjoyable, the gaffer’s been fantastic, we played in three different cities, worked hard and all in all, overall, a fantastic tour and good work for us.”
